The University of Exeter is world-renowned for its research-led teaching and commitment to training the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Within the Department of Psychology, I design and deliver a wide range of clinical education programmes within the post graduate department.
Through my work at CEDAR (Clinical Education, Development and Research), I help shape the training of psychological professionals including systemic therapists, clinical psychologists and mental health practitioners across the UK.
The Department of Psychology at the University of Exeter is home to CEDAR – an Applied Psychological Practice Centre of Excellence.
CEDAR is one of the UK’s largest providers of training in evidence-based psychological practice and therapies, working across the NHS and private practice.
CEDAR specialises in delivering evidence-based programmes for practitioners at all stages of their careers through clinical training, resources, consultation, research, apprenticeships and CPD.
In addition, through CEDAR Create, it offers extensive bespoke consultancy, research and training services.
The systemic training centre has become one of the most prolific and successful in the UK, incorporating extensive research & evaluation.
The systemic portfolio and family therapy training programmes include courses such as the MSc in Psychological Therapies (Systemic Therapy), Systemic Supervision, Family Intervention for Psychosis and Systemic Family Practice.
Systemic courses are grounded in reflective practice and inclusive, ethical care. The University of Exeter is committed to creating a safe space that fosters open and honest dialogue, contributing to a respectful, welcoming and inclusive environment.
At the University of Exeter, I serve as Deputy Director of Postgraduate Taught Programmes and Director of the Systemic Portfolio within CEDAR.
My responsibilities include academic conduct, fitness to practise and developing the Expert by Experience strategy within the department. I am also a core part of the CEDAR Create team, providing consultancy, research, training and CPD services.
Drawing on over 30 years’ experience in mental health and education, I oversee the development and delivery of postgraduate training for systemic practice.
With my colleague Mark Rivett, I have helped to establish one of the most prolific systemic training providers in the country. I have co-developed six systemic courses, including Systemic Supervision, Family Therapy Qualifying, CYP IAPT and Family Interventions.
I am Programme Lead for the CAMHS inpatient training programme and have expertise in delivering whole-team training for specialist eating disorder services.
In 2020, I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Practice, researching notions of ‘home’ within an inpatient context.
